Hanuman Jayanti is a Hindu festival that honors the birth of Lord Hanuman, the deity and hero of the Ramayana. This festival falls on the full moon day i.e. full moon day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Lord Hanuman, son of Anjana and Kesari, is also known as the Monkey God, Bajrangbali and Vayu Dev. Hanuman, known for his unwavering devotion towards Lord Rama and Sita, is also known as Anjaneya.

The celebration varies across Indian states, with unique traditions and timing in each region. This year Hanuman Jayanti is on Tuesday, 23 April.

The auspicious time to perform puja on Hanuman Jayanti is 10:41 am to 1:57 pm, 3:35 pm to 5:13 pm and 8:13 pm to 9:35 pm.

Purnima Tithi starts at 3:25 AM on April 23, 2024 and ends at 5:18 AM on April 24, 2024.

Hanuman Jayanti 2024: Significance

Hanuman Janmotsav is one of the major festivals of Hindu religion. It is an auspicious day to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman. People celebrate this day with great grandeur and enthusiasm and keep a fast to get the blessings of Hanuman ji. They visit various famous temples to worship Bajrangbali.

Which is still alive and present on this earth. He is also known as the Rudra incarnation of Lord Shiva. Hanuman ji is called by various names like Maruti Nandan, Bajrangbali, Pawan Putra, Veer Hanuman, Sundar (this name was given to him by his mother in his childhood) and Sankat Mochan who removes all the troubles of his devotees. Hanuman is known for his power and strength and it is believed that Hanuman ji can do anything and everything, even those things which seem impossible for anyone. There is a story in Ramayana when Lord Hanuman saved Lakshmana and lifted the entire mountain on his shoulders to bring Sanjeevani Booti.

According to Hindu mythology, Anjana was an Apsara, she was cursed by a sage and hence took birth on earth. She could get rid of this curse only after giving birth to a son. According to Valmiki Ramayana, Hanuman’s father was King Kesari of a place called Sumeru. Anjana prayed to Shiva for 12 years with the desire to have a son. Lord Shiva fulfilled his wish and then Hanuman was born.

On this day, Lord Hanuman is honored with offerings of vermillion, red attire, flower garlands, roses, laddus, halwa and bananas. Various processions and religious programs are organized to celebrate the occasion.

Puja rituals include observing Tatkal Tithi (Ratrivyapini) fast, spending the night on the floor remembering Ram-Sita and Hanuman, taking bath early in the morning, taking pledge of fast with water in hand, sitting in front of the devotees. An idol or picture of Lord Hanuman facing east, praying to the deity with utmost respect.

Hanuman Jayanti is considered an auspicious day to remove obstacles associated with Saturn. It is believed that worshiping Lord Hanuman on this day eliminates negative energy and provides relief from problems related to ghosts.

It is highly recommended to recite Hanuman Chalisa, Bajrang Baan and chant the mantra “Om Ham Hanumate Namah” to get the blessings of Lord Hanuman.
