‘Surya Tilak’ was applied on the forehead of the idol of Ram Lala in Ayodhya temple on Ram Navami 2024

On the occasion of Ram Navami on Wednesday, April 17, ‘Surya Tilak’ (sun rays) was applied on the forehead of the idol of Lord Ram Lala in the Ayodhya temple. The ‘Surya Tilak’ of the deity was made possible by an elaborate mechanism consisting of mirrors and lenses. Scientists tested this system on Tuesday.

Ram Navami 2024

This was the first Ram Navami after the consecration of the Ram idol in the Ayodhya temple inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22.

According to a senior scientist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, the size of the tilak planned is 58 mm. The correct duration for applying the tilak on the center of the forehead, he said, was about three to three and a half minutes, with two minutes of complete illumination.

Anil Mishra, a member of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, earlier said, “During Surya Tilak, devotees will be allowed inside the Ram temple. Around 100 LED screens are being installed by the temple trust and 50 by the government, which will show the Ram Navami celebrations.
