YouTube India Report: 83% of Gen Z See Themselves as Content Creators

Youth, especially Gen Z, are now joining YouTube in large numbers. 83 percent of them consider themselves content creators. This has been revealed by a report by YouTube India. In fact, YouTube India has released a report in collaboration with a research company named SmithGeiger. This report states that most of the youth consider themselves ‘creators’.

This data from SmithGeiger points to the fact that the ecosystem of content creation in India has now become democratic. Because any user with a smartphone and internet connectivity can aspire to become a content creator.

This report, released on the 10th anniversary of YouTube Fanfest, states that 91% of Gen Z fans have participated in some fan-related activities in the last 12 months.

It revealed that 93% of Gen Z fans use YouTube to watch content about the person or thing they are fans of. 62% of Gen Z said they belong to a fan group that no one is personally a part of.

Inspired to create their own content

Speaking about the development of fandom on YouTube, Ishan John Chatterjee, Director, India, said, ‘Fans are constantly turning to YouTube to deepen their relationship with the subjects of their fandom, either by watching fan-created content related to their favorite topics or by creating their own content. Fans can also explore their favorite content, which promotes discovery and deeper engagement.’ YouTube also shared its plans to empower creators and fans to unleash their creativity, build thriving communities, and turn their passions into opportunities.

Inspiring the youth

He says ‘We are putting creativity in everyone’s hands with intuitive tools like the YouTube Create app and inspiring mobile-first creation with YouTube Shorts. We’re making it easier than ever for everyone to express themselves in a variety of formats.

We believe that passionate fans should be able to directly support their favorite creators, and that’s why we offer creators multiple ways to earn through fan-funded features like Super Chat, Super Stickers, channel memberships and merchandise.” Chatterjee also said that YouTube will continue to invest in features like posts, vertical live streams and multilingual audio to help creators connect with their audiences on a deeper level, no matter where they are in the world.

Railways are more popular among them

This report shows that Indian Railways is very popular among YouTubers. That’s why most of their content revolves around railway stations, railway premises, trains or railway tracks. Along with this, miniatures and chess are also quite popular.

This report also states that 87% of Gen Z people describe themselves as fans of someone or the other. Apart from this, 62% of Gen Z people say that they are associated with such fandom, which has no connection with anyone. The person is not a part of the individual.
