Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a special visit to Kolkata on March 6, 2024. He initiated several mega projects worth ₹15,400 crore. This was his second visit to West Bengal in just five days. This is part of a bigger plan where he is visiting 12 places in 10 days to showcase the government’s work in creating new things across India.
A new kind of metro in India
One of the main works done by him was to launch the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade portion of Kolkata’s East-West Metro. This metro line is special because it goes under water. The cost of building this 4.8 kilometer long stretch was Rs 4,965 crore. Howrah has India’s deepest metro station at 30 meters below ground. This project is important as it connects important places like the IT area in Salt Lake Sector V, making it easier for people to travel.
More trains for better travel
PM Modi also started other train services in Kolkata. These services, like the Kavi Subhash-Hemant Mukhopadhyay and Taratala-Majerhat metro sections, will make traveling in the city easier for everyone.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Projects all over India
The Prime Minister also launched projects in other cities. This includes new metro lines in Pune, Kochi, Agra and a rapid transit section between Duhai and Modinagar in the Delhi-Meerut corridor. These projects reflect the government’s plan to improve travel in many cities.
Talking to people and leaders
Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to speak at a rally in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district. This shows how important West Bengal is for the upcoming national elections. In his last visit, he talked about the problems of the state and had a short meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This shows that many types of opinions and discussions are taking place in the politics of West Bengal.
Meeting the Chief Minister
Amidst the launch of all these projects, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He described it as a “courtesy meeting” at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata. This shows that despite their different political views, leaders can meet and talk.
Summary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Kolkata visit was not just to launch India’s first underwater metro. It was also a chance to show how the government is working on big projects to make people’s lives easier. By improving the way we travel in cities, these projects promise a future where it will be much faster and easier for everyone to get around.
