In a shocking incident, Mumbai Police arrested Mohammad Faizan Khan from Raipur on November 12 for allegedly threatening Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The arrest happened after Shah Rukh’s team lodged a complaint at the Bandra Police Station, which led to an extensive investigation.
Details of the Threat
According to police reports, the threat call to Shah Rukh Khan was received from an unknown number at the Bandra Police Station. The caller demanded ₹50 lakhs and threatened to harm Shah Rukh if the money was not paid. When asked for his name, the caller simply replied, “It does not matter. My name is Hindustani.” This prompted Mumbai Police to take immediate action to trace the source of the call.
How Faizan Khan Was Arrested
- Transit Remand: On the morning of November 12, Mumbai Police officers, led by CSP Ajay Singh, reached Raipur to arrest Faizan. They detained him from his residence and will present him in court soon.
- SIM Card Investigation: The number used to make the threatening call was registered under Faizan Khan’s name. Faizan, a lawyer based in Raipur, had reported that his mobile phone, containing this SIM, was stolen on November 2.
Faizan Khan’s Defense: Mobile Was Stolen
Faizan Khan claims he is innocent and that his mobile phone had been stolen before the threat was made. He reported the lost phone to Khamhardih Police Station on November 4, while the threatening call was made on November 5. He even presented a digital copy of his police complaint to prove his claim. Despite this, he was arrested and questioned extensively.
Family’s Perspective and Security Concerns
- Security Fears: Faizan’s family claims that he has been receiving death threats since the incident. Due to safety concerns, Faizan had requested to record his statement through an audio or video link rather than appearing in person at the Bandra Police Station.
- Family Statement: They also believe there is a conspiracy to frame Faizan. The family insists he will cooperate with the police investigation but fears for his safety.
Background: Complaints Against Shah Rukh Khan
Interestingly, Faizan had previously filed complaints against Shah Rukh Khan. He objected to a scene in the actor’s 1994 film Anjaam in which Shah Rukh’s character is shown hunting a deer. This scene hurt the sentiments of the Bishnoi community, who consider deer sacred. Faizan accused Shah Rukh of attempting to incite communal unrest with this portrayal.
What Is the Bishnoi Community?
- The Bishnoi community, native to Rajasthan, follows strict principles of wildlife conservation and reveres the deer as sacred.
- Faizan argued that the film scene violated the community’s religious beliefs, leading him to demand a ban on Anjaam and file multiple complaints in October.
Claims of a Conspiracy
Faizan believes the use of his stolen SIM card for the threat call is part of a conspiracy to falsely implicate him. He stated that he and his family feel unsafe and have asked for protection from Raipur SSP Santosh Singh.
Past Threats to Shah Rukh Khan
This isn’t the first time Shah Rukh Khan has received threats. In 2023, after the success of his movies Pathaan and Jawan, he was placed under Y-plus security. The Bollywood actor continues to be closely guarded as a result.
