Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the fearless Steve Irwin, has chosen a very dangerous, yet beautiful path in life. The 21-year-old woman decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and be the wildlife expert and lover she was raised to be.
The young woman shared the news of her marriage to 23-year-old Chandler Powell in an Instagram post. The ceremony was kept in secret and the couple hadn’t had any guests to celebrate the event. The ceremony where all the friends had to attend was cancelled, after the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bindi Irwin’s choice for the wedding location was, of course, the Australia Zoo Queensland, right from the start. It is the zoo opened by her grandparents in the 1970s, which was later on made famous by her father, Steve Irwin. This is also her home, the place where her entire family lives and works – her, her husband, brother and mother.
Because Bindi’s whole family lives in the zoo, her mother and brother were able to attend the ceremony.
To celebrate the event, Bindi wrote on her Instagram:
“We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.”
The ceremony also included a tribute to Steve Irwin, also known as the “crocodile hunter”. He died in 2006, on the 4 of September, at the age of 44. He was the victim of a tragic aquatic accident, being killed by a stingray barb which stabbed him in the heart while filming for a documentary.
